Sponsorship
We sponsor a small number of things each year where the audience genuinely overlaps with the businesses we serve.
We are a small company. We would rather back a handful of things properly than scatter a logo across everything, so most pitches get a no. A quick no is not a judgement on what you are doing.
What we consider
Events and meetups — conferences, local business groups, and industry gatherings for small business operators, accountants, bookkeepers, or funding professionals.
Newsletters and podcasts — publications read by people running businesses. A smaller, genuinely engaged audience beats a large, general one every time.
Communities — forums, Slack and Discord groups, and membership organisations for business owners and the professionals who advise them.
Open source — tools we actually use. We build on a great deal of work we did not pay for, and some of it deserves support.
Education — programmes teaching business operations, bookkeeping, or entrepreneurship, particularly outside the usual metro areas.
What we look for
- Real overlap with small and mid-sized business operators, or the professionals serving them
- An honest picture of your audience — size, engagement, and who they actually are
- A clear ask — what you want, what it costs, and what we get
- Something that fits how we already talk — plain, specific, no hype
We care more about whether the right hundred people are listening than whether ten thousand are.
What we usually decline
- Pure logo placement with no connection to the audience
- Anything in a category our Acceptable Use Policy prohibits — cryptocurrency, adult content, gambling, payday lending, credit repair
- Sponsorships requiring earnings, approval, or funding claims about the platform
- Political campaigns and partisan advocacy
- Anything asking for editorial control over how it is covered
- Requests arriving as an obvious mass mail-out
How to pitch
Email info@shobizapp.com with the subject line Sponsorship.
Include:
- What it is and when it happens
- Who the audience is — size, makeup, and how engaged they are, honestly
- The tiers and what each includes
- What it costs
- Who has sponsored before, if anyone
- Your deadline
A short email with those six things beats a twenty-page deck. If we need more we will ask.
What happens next
We reply to pitches that fit within two weeks. If you have not heard back, it is a no — and we would rather say that here than leave you refreshing your inbox.
For anything we do sponsor, we will want to agree on how ShoBiz is described. Our brand guidelines cover the basics, and the rules against earnings claims are not negotiable.
